This week I got to meet a lovely little quarantine baby, Archie…at a distance of course! Archies Mummy and Daddy, Tom and Samantha, welcomed me to their doorstep to create some intimate newborn portraits. I previously had the pleasure of creating some fun family portraits for Toms lovely sister Katie! When Katie saw that I was offering social distancing portrait sessions she decided to hire this mobile newborn photographer as a special birthday gift to her brother. Which just made this session even more special!
Before our session I spoke to Tom and Samantha to go through the details of their shoot and much to my pleasure and surprise we discovered that we live right round the corner from each other! I arrived at their home with a big beam on my face to find this family lived in an absolutely stunning barn conversion! A mobile newborn photographers dream to have such a stunning backdrop to work with!
I like to start these social distancing sessions outside. Tom and Samantha lead me over to a beautiful oak tree in their field. I asked them to sit together in the shade, we chatted about life as new parents in lockdown and got to know each other a little before I started shooting.
Archie was so happy under the tree, the breeze gently blowing the branches. He was mesmerised by the movement and it was a delight to see his curious eyes trying to focus on the leaves. After some gorgeous cwtches with Mummy and gentle rocking from Daddy, Archie was soon blissfully asleep.
Heading back to their home, through the fields and the intrigued flock of sheep who had been watching us, I asked Samantha about her birth experience. I LOVE a positive birth story and was so happy to hear how Samantha had nothing but good words for the wonderful midwives of Neville Hall. Doing their very best under such difficult circumstances, thank you NHS heroes!

I mentioned before that a lovely home like this one is a dream for a mobile newborn photographer like myself. Well you can imagine my excitement when I saw these HUGE windows! Perfect for these unique social distanced newborn portraits. I gave the couple a few simple instructions then they headed inside to love on their beautiful Archie as I snapped away, safely on the other side of the glass.
Samantha, Tom and even Archie we’re just the most relaxed people ever and an absolute pleasure to photograph. They talked about how surreal it was to have baby but not be able to have visitors to come and meet him! This time isn’t necessarily how they imagined it but I’m so glad I had the chance to help them celebrate and document the beginning of their wonderful little boys life.
