It’s finally time to share this gorgeous maternity photoshoot in Abergavenny, celebrating the new life Elen and Carl were bringing into the world, a little sibling for their son. We met in a location that felt really special to this family, just on the outskirts of Abergavenny. This is a place this family have enjoyed walks and connected with nature many times before and still enjoy now that baby is earthside. In fact Elen shared a wonderful picture of herself with her baby in the sling enjoying a walk in this very spot, sharing how special it felt to be back at the place we chose to document her pregnancy!
Please note, I choose not to share the faces of my clients children to protect their privacy.

This maternity photoshoot in Abergavenny was booked as a gift by Carl to his expectant wife, huge husband brownie points to Carl for that! When myself and Elen finally got to speak on the phone she told me how she had followed my work for years and had hoped we’d get to work together. I cannot tell you how incredible that was to hear! She also shared with me that she wanted to feel powerful in her images which leads me to share this photo below. The moment I took it I thought, there she is, an incredible woman, growing life within her, beautiful, graceful and incredibly powerful! In fact when I shared this image with Elen she told me how it was what she was thinking when she told me what she wanted from the photos!

It probably goes without saying that during a maternity photoshoot in Abergavenny the focus is on Mum and her blooming curves. But it’s always a delight when her partner gets involved in the session too. Whenever I get a couple in front of my camera during a maternity session I swear I can feel the spark between them. It’s a wonderful opportunity slow down the busyness of life, especially if you already have children to care for, to connect with each other. To give yourselves the space to truly appreciate the new chapter your stepping into, that the dream you have wished for is coming soon and that whatever it brings you’re in this together.

Big brother was also a part of this maternity photoshoot in Abergavenny and I cannot tell you what an absolute star he was! I’ve been doing this work for many years now and I know never to come to a session with any expectations from a child. I meet them wherever they are and allow them to come to me in their own time. Well I can tell you that this big brother took no time at all in fact it wasn’t long before he was telling me all kinds of stories, holding my hand across the stream and asking me to race over the bridges! He was a lot of fun and he was even keen to have a try at taking some photos, I’ll let you guess which one of the photos below was taken by his little hands!

Of course all pregnant women are powerful, pregnancy is not for the faint-hearted but Elen took it to a whole other level for this maternity photoshoot in Abergavenny. We shot these images in the winter, a wet Welsh COLD winter but she persevered through the less than favourable conditions. Undoubtably freezing cold as she bared the beauty of her bump to the forest but she took it in her stride and you would never guess just how cold it was when you see how peaceful she looks in these photos.

Thank you so much to this beautiful family for spending the day sharing their sacred space with me and allowing me to document the precipice of them becoming a family of four. If you would like to see more of my maternity work please have a look here.
