When I tell you this family photoshoot in Brecon was a long time coming, believe me, it was a year in the making! But this session is living testament to the idea that good things come to those who wait. It was a magical, liberating, exciting exploration into the incredible landscapes Wales has to offer. And boy, did we have fun! Without further ado allow me to share this session with Hannah and her two brilliant girls.
Please note, I do not share the faces of my clients children online so as to protect their privacy.

We started our family photoshoot in Brecon with me promising the girls that I was going to take them on a waterfall hunt, that we would find lots of them and eventually a huge one we could stand under and enjoy it’s spray! With that they were off into the woods eager to see what was to come. Along the way I shared stories of woodland magic, how trees can speak to each other, magical moss to be found and if we were lucky we might have a fairy spotting! With this Hannah told the girls that I was not just a photographer but a forest fairy. Of course the girls were not having it … that was until they found me balancing up high on a branch of a moss covered tree. Seemingly conversing with the tree itself…that or getting up high to get the shot I wanted!

These girls truly got into the spirit of a family photoshoot in Brecon with me. I always say I choose to work in nature with families not only because I believe that Wales provides the most beautiful backdrops but because children thrive when we allow them freedom in nature. These girls were running off ahead, hugging the trees, getting in close to explore life on the forest floor, splashing in puddles, challenging each other to races, even finding fallen branches which became tools for imaginative play. I may have made up stories of fairies to tell the girls but they were the ones that brought the magic!

Finally our family photoshoot in Brecon brought us to the promised larger than life waterfall. The girls were thrilled which was a relief because I had been bigging it up the whole time!! Hand in hand we all made our way across the slippery stones to stand at the foot of this wonder of the natural world. We screamed with delight feeling the icy water spray our faces. Then I invited the girls and Hannah to ground their feet firmly on the ground, fill their bellies with a big deep breath and then scream and shout as loud as they could into the roar of the mighty waterfall! This wonderful family have been through a hellish year and I could feel the need for this mighty, raw release and I can’t say I was surprised when there were requests to do it all over again.

All of my family photoshoots in Brecon are about bringing a family somewhere special and allowing them to just be. Explore and enjoy what there is on offer and I will follow their lead, capturing these memories as I go along. It’s an honour.
