I first photographed Maria during her pregnancy, out in the rain. It was wild and freeing and full of emotion. So being invited back, this time into her home in Monmouth, to document the arrival of her second baby girl felt incredibly special.

Before I share more about this session, I always like to gently remind you of something that’s really important to me.

I made the decision last year not to share images where children’s faces are visible. It’s something I feel strongly about, and it’s a boundary I continue to hold with a lot of care and respect for the families I work with.

But I’ll be honest… when I have a newborn photoshoot in Monmouth like this one, with two beautiful little girls and such a soft, love-filled home, there’s a small part of me that wishes you could see it all exactly as it was.

There’s something about returning to a family in a new chapter that always stays with me.

And this newborn photoshoot in Monmouth felt exactly how I believe those early days should feel slow, gentle, and completely centred around the mother and her children.

I really love working this way, in your own home. Especially during those first few weeks after birth, when everything is still so new and tender. The fourth trimester is such a sacred time. You’re recovering, adjusting, learning your baby, holding your older child through the change too… it’s a lot, even when it’s beautiful.

The idea of packing bags, getting everyone dressed, and leaving the house for a studio session can feel like too much. And honestly, I don’t think you should have to.

A newborn photoshoot in Monmouth like this allows you to stay exactly where you’re meant to be—at home, in your own space, moving at your own pace.

This session was just that. Calm, unhurried, and completely led by the girls.

We spent the morning chatting, pausing when needed, and letting things unfold naturally. I gave the odd bit of guidance here and there, but nothing was forced. If the baby needed feeding, we stopped. If her older sister wanted a cuddle or a moment, we followed that.

That’s always how I work. The experience matters just as much as anything we capture. I want you to remember how it felt, not just how it looked.

And there was so much feeling in this newborn photoshoot in Monmouth.

The way big sister stayed close, curious and gentle in her own way. The quiet moments where everyone just settled into the new rhythm. The softness that fills a home when a newborn is there, it’s hard to describe, but you know it when you’re in it.

After we’d spent time capturing the family together, Maria and I went upstairs for a quieter part of the session. This was something that felt really important to include.

Maria is a passionate breastfeeding peer supporter here in Monmouth, so taking the time to document her feeding her baby felt deeply aligned with who she is. It wasn’t rushed or overly styled, just a quiet moment between her and her daughter.

And baby… she was such a calm little soul. You know how it sometimes is with second babies—they just seem to settle into the world a little differently. She slept so peacefully, which meant we could capture all those tiny details.

Little fingers. Soft skin. And yes, lots of baby feet, because I really do have a soft spot for them.

Even without sharing faces, there is so much story in those details. So much connection.

If you’re thinking about booking a newborn photoshoot in Monmouth, I just want to say this to you, you don’t need to have it all together.

Your home doesn’t need to be ‘perfect’. You don’t need to feel fully rested or “back to yourself.” You are allowed to be right in the middle of it all. Tired, emotional, completely in love, maybe a little overwhelmed too.

That’s motherhood.

And you are doing so much better than you think you are.

A newborn photoshoot in Monmouth is simply a way to hold onto this time, in a way that feels true to you. No pressure, no expectations, just space to be with your baby, in your home, as everything slowly begins to settle.

One day, you’ll look back and realise just how much you were holding in those early days.
