I don’t know about you, but when I was pregnant, time felt both slow and unbelievably fast all at once. You’re growing a whole human, your body is changing daily, and yet it can be so easy to just… get through it. To focus on appointments, to-do lists, and preparing for what’s coming next. That’s why I always feel so deeply about offering a pregnancy photoshoot in Abergavenny experience. Because this chapter deserves to be held onto, not rushed through.

I recently had the joy of photographing Maria again, a woman I’ve been lucky enough to document over the past two years. I’ve watched her with her little one, seen her settle into motherhood, and celebrated her family of three. So when she reached out to book a pregnancy photoshoot in Abergavenny for her second baby, it felt really special. Like being invited back into something familiar, but also completely new.
We originally planned something quite different. The idea was to head deep into a woodland just outside Crickhowell, somewhere quiet and tucked away where she could feel fully immersed in nature. But, as it often does here, the Welsh weather had other plans.
Rain. And not just a light drizzle—the kind that doesn’t really let up paired with some pretty angry wind.
We rescheduled more than once, hoping for a break in it, but eventually we both realised we could keep waiting… or we could lean into it.
So we changed direction and moved her pregnancy photoshoot to Abergavenny to Linda Vista Gardens. It felt like the right choice, especially with her being heavily pregnant by this point. It’s more accessible and still incredibly beautiful.
And honestly? It ended up being perfect.

With a bit of intention and some careful framing, we were still able to create that feeling of being surrounded by nature. There’s something about the way greenery wraps around you there, especially when the rain deepens all the colours, that makes everything feel calm and almost dreamlike.
One of the spots I was particularly drawn to was a beautiful old yew tree. It gave us some protection from the rain, but more than that, it just felt significant. Yew trees have long been associated with rebirth and renewal, and I couldn’t ignore how fitting that felt in that moment.

Because that’s what this is, isn’t it?
You’re not just growing a baby, you’re becoming a new version of yourself too. Even if you’ve done this before, it’s different every time.
Seeing Maria standing there, held by that tree, hand resting on her bump it felt like everything aligned for a moment. Calm, grounded, ready.
Later in the session, she changed, and we did something a little braver. We stepped out from the shelter and into the rain. No hiding from it this time.
And I’ll be honest, this part stayed with me. She just opened her arms and let it all fall around her. There was something so free in the way she moved, like she was fully accepting everything that was coming another baby, another shift, another expansion of love and responsibility.

That’s something I see a lot during a pregnancy photoshoots in Abergavenny session, but it never feels ordinary. That moment where a woman allows herself to just be in it.

One of my favourite images from the day was a close-up of her bump, with raindrops running down its curve. It was simple, but it said everything. Strength, softness, life, change all held in one photo.

I also captured parts of the session on video, creating a short home-movie style piece for her. There’s something about movement, about hearing the rain and seeing those small in-between moments, that adds another layer to the memory. (Don’t worry, I’ll link to the video below.)

If you’re thinking about booking a pregnancy photoshoot in Abergavenny, I just want to say this gently … don’t wait for everything to feel perfect.
The weather might not cooperate. You might not feel completely comfortable in your body every day. Things might not look how you first imagined.
But there is so much beauty here, exactly as it is.
You are doing something incredible. Truly. Growing a baby, holding your family together, preparing for a whole new chapter you deserve to have this time remembered.

A pregnancy photoshoot in Abergavenny can be as simple as standing in the rain, breathing it all in, and letting yourself be seen in this moment.
And one day, you’ll look back and realise just how powerful you really were.
Here’s a sneak to the little ‘home movie’ we created, Maria had so many people reach out to say how beautiful it was to watch.
