I’ve been thinking about this session with Imogen a lot lately, and it keeps filling my heart right up. Photographing her again felt incredibly special, because this wasn’t the first chapter of her motherhood story that I’ve been invited into. The first time I photographed Imogen, she was breastfeeding her eldest son, deep in that raw, tender season of early motherhood. So being there now, celebrating her second pregnancy with a maternity photoshoot in Monmouth, felt like coming full circle in the most beautiful way.

Second pregnancies can be funny things. You’re just as excited, just as in love, but time somehow moves faster. Life is fuller, days are busier, and it’s easy to forget to pause and really feel what’s happening in your body and your heart. That’s one of the reasons I love offering a maternity photoshoot in Monmouth that feels slow, intentional, and deeply connected to nature. And Imogen absolutely understood that from the moment she said yes.

She is such a beautiful soul, inside and out, and I felt truly honoured that she trusted my vision for this session. I brought along a flowing white cotton dress for her to wear, and it ended up being the perfect choice for where we were heading. Soft, simple, and breathable, it moved so gently with her body and the breeze, highlighting her bump without ever feeling fussy. It suited her so completely.

We headed to a secluded woodland on the outskirts of Monmouth, a place I chose very deliberately. The forest floor there is covered in the most incredible rolling carpet of moss, rich and green and alive. The moment Imogen stepped out of her shoes and placed her bare feet on it, you could almost see her shoulders drop. That’s one of the reasons a maternity photoshoot in Monmouth can be so special when it’s rooted in nature, the land itself supports you.

We wandered slowly through the woods, no rush, just breathing it all in. We spent time forest bathing, with Imogen placing her hands on the trees, eyes closed, connecting with the strength and stillness around her. It felt grounding in the truest sense. Pregnancy, especially the second time around, asks so much of a woman, and moments like this allow space to refill your cup.
One of my favourite images from this maternity photoshoot in Monmouth happened almost by accident, though it didn’t feel accidental at all. I asked Imogen to stand on a moss-covered tree stump and gently guided her into a pose. Her arms reached high above her head, her chest open, her face lifted slightly as the breeze moved around her. There was something so powerful about that moment – the expansiveness of her body, making space for new life, supported by the earth beneath her feet. You can feel it when you look at the image.

This is why I love working with women who truly see a maternity photoshoot in Monmouth as an invitation to slow down. Especially during a second pregnancy, when the weeks blur together, it’s a chance to reconnect with your inner world. To feel your baby. To feel yourself. To remember that you’re doing something extraordinary.

Call me a tree hugger if you must, but I genuinely believe nature is a sanctuary for mothers at every stage. A maternity photoshoot in Monmouth, surrounded by woodland, moss, and ancient trees, offers a kind of quiet support that’s hard to put into words. And one day, when this season feels far away, these images will gently remind you of how it felt to carry life, grounded, strong, and deeply connected.
