Family Photographer South Wales - Mummy And Me Photoshoot - The Beauty of a Mini Session for Mothers

2024 was the FIFTH year of hosting mummy and me photoshoot minis for Mothers day. And yet again it was glorious day filled with cuddles, heart to hearts and smiles a plenty. I got to photograph Mothers I’ve had the pleasure of working with many times before, I got to meet Mums for the first time and together, we all celebrated the ups and downs of being a Mother. So let’s share some of the photos along with some thoughts on why Mums should be coming along to mini photoshoot days!

So before we carry on you may be wondering, what is a mummy and me photoshoot mini? Well mini days are simply a day full of short photoshoots usually around 20 minutes. I host several of these events throughout the year. They’re a great taster for people who’ve never had a photoshoot before and want to see what it’s all about. They’re perfect for people who don’t have the budget for a full photoshoot. And this particular mini day was all about Mum and her little ones, so perfect if you really want these kinds of images but your partner doesn’t want to get in front of the camera.

I feel passionate about Mothers getting into the photos with their children as an act of love not just for themselves but for their children too. Investing in the photoshoot experience is a Mother who acknowledges how hard she works for her children, how hard she loves them and she wants to celebrate this. Not only is she getting to enjoy the moment, being fully present but she is capturing those memories so she can revisit them always. And I try not to say this in a macabre way but she is gifting these moments for her children to cherish when she is no longer around. I know that sounds awful to some but I can’t tell you how many people have told me how much they wish they had photos of themselves with their late parents. It breaks my heart! I hope you can see now why I make mummy and me photoshoots a priority every year!

There’s something else I hear from Mums all the time and that is, “I have so many nice photos of my kids with my partner but they never take any of me with the kids!” Honestly this is a lament that most of us seem to be crying and I am absolutely in that group with you! Yet another reason to get in front of my camera! Actually one Mum from this years mummy and me photoshoots shared one of her images online from the day with the caption, “finally have some photos of me and Madlen to rival the ones of her with Dan!”

The final thing I was reminded of on this mummy and me photoshoot day was how few of us invest in maternity photography. It’s an almost daily occurrence that I hear Mums say they wish they had had professional pregnancy photos taken. Now trust me I get it, there are so many things to think about with a baby on the way, so many costs along with that and let’s be real, maternity pay is….well, not kind! Which is why mummy and me photoshoot minis are a brilliant option for those who want a beautiful memento of the incredible chapter that is pregnancy whilst keeping an eye on the pennies!

All in all this years mummy and me photoshoot day was a blast! We had a brand new Mum who’s cuddly babe was just a couple of weeks old right through to a Mum who brought her lovely six year old daughter. It was wonderful to spend time with Mothers who were at different stages of Motherhood, to celebrate them and the love they share with their children. And to have real moments of connection, where we spoke honestly about the challenges of Motherhood and shared words of encouragement. An important reminder that we are all in this together.

I’ve had so many wonderful messages from the mummy and me photoshoot day and I send out my biggest, most heartfelt thanks to each Mother who came along!
